Chevron love

So I have been seeing a bunch of different ideas on how to hang necklaces and other pieces of jewelry (mainly via Pinterest).  I was trying to think of ideas for my cousin's birthday and thought this would be perfect.  She just started her freshman year of college and I knew I had to make her something.  (All of my friends and family can attest to the fact that my go-to gifts are always something handmade).  At first I wanted to find old dresser knobs, but then I wasn't sure what I would attach them to.  Then I decided to browse the endless supply of miscellaneous odds and ends that have been accumulating in my basement.  I saw this 4x6 wooden picture frame that sparked the creation of this jewelry hanger.  Next, I went to my dad's work bench area where I found a drawer labeled "hooks" and the rest was a piece of cake.  These hooks I found were from who knows when, but they all had threads like the end of a screw.  They went into the wooden frame so easily.

For the assembly, I painted all the hooks one color.  I then decided on the chevron pattern and found some old cardboard to cut and fit in the picture frame.  After this was painted and put in the frame, I extended the chevron pattern to the frame itself.  I screwed the hooks in and that was that!

So as you can see, I go to Mizzou...(University of Missouri-Columbia).  This wreath started out as the holder of some cake pops my roommates made for a football weekend.  After seeing a Mizzou wreath on a neighbor's door, the idea of reusing the ring was perfect!

All this took was some attempts to make the ribbon look its best and a little paint job on the wooden letters and popsicle sticks.  Hot glue is a staple in most of my crafts.  

Repurposed supplies: styrofoam ring, popsicle sticks, ribbon to hang, black paint.

Bought: black and yellow ribbon, letters to paint

Hi, my name is Bridget and welcome to my first blog ever!  This is basically just a collection of any craft I create, majority of them consisting of reused items from around my house.  It all stems from the way I grew up since my mom has raised me to be very resourceful and to think outside the box.  My childhood consisted of crafts, enjoying the outdoors, and learning how to make use of what I have.  I have always loved art and having the ability to make things my own.  Throughout my life I have been altering, embellishing and re-purposing anything from clothes to old picture frames to miscellaneous items that have been out of use.  To start, I will be posting new or old pictures and telling a little bit about how I re-purposed it.  I hope to inspire people to think outside the box in their own lives.  My motto in the words of Albert Einstein, "creativity is contagious, pass it on"...and that's what I intend to do.
